Maintaining My Daughter’s Waist Length Natural Hair – Our RevAir Routine to Dry, Stretch and Smooth in One Easy Step!
Yes that's Gia! aka my baby.
She’s 13 now! Her baby fro is waist-length now.
Wash day is… a challenge, now. Or at least it used to be.
Enter RevAir.
Leery of new technology and overprotective of her curls, I was nervous to try it at first, even though the reviews and demonstration videos were alluring. It’s a reverse-air dryer that is faster yet gentler than traditional dryers, dries in a downward direction so that it doesn’t disturb or ruffle the protective cuticle of the hair (causing frizz and damage), and stretches and smooths in one step. We tried it. We loved it. We’ve been using it ever since – for at least two years now, and her hair is just as full, curly, and healthy. It cuts an hour or more off of wash day, and leaves her hair stretched, shiny, and prepped for protective styles like mini twists (never doing those again tho, because we left them in too long and basically had to comb out locs!), buns, and big french braids (that I still can’t do- enter Momma, stage left!).
RevAir recently also came out with their own line of products, just in time for me to semi-retire my turbans. I’m back on camera now (a new series on GoOD Mornings with CurlyNikki) so I’ve been doing my hair lol. I laugh because it’s the lowest maintenance routine ever! It consists of me henna’ing once a month, and then when I wash and condition I rinse clean, dry in a t-shirt and make 6 (six!) bantu knots using my favorite leave-in of choice.
My main tips for using the RevAir:
-allow hair to air dry for at least 15-30 minutes before beginning for quicker style time and to minimize exposure to heat
-be light-handed with product use for smooth, light-weight, salon-quality results
-use a comb or wooden paddle brush to smooth strands as you pull the wand away from the hair (think about how you use chase the flat iron with a brush or comb– same method) for straighter ends.
I take them down in the morning and it looks like this – I recreate the knots on dry hair on the nights I need GoOD hair the next day, using the same magic leave-in with no worry of build-up or flakes, and I get nearly the same, camera-ready results every time! That leave-in? RevAir’s Boost Fullness – Nourishing Scalp and Hair Conditioning Leave-In Treatment for boosting length, density and fullness.
I’ve been using it for a month and while I can’t say I’ve seen a change in length yet, breakage and excessive shedding has halted, so we’re getting somewhere! The first bottle was a gift, but I will absolutely repurchase!
I used the Extreme Hydration line on Gia for the first time (gifted from RevAir) last weekend. My mom helps with me with wash day and she knows there are many lines that we’ve tried on Gia that absolutely aren’t slippery, don’t detangle, and even seem to cause more tangles and dryness. She was doing the first round of detangling, and guess what, we didn’t need a second round. She used the Detox Pre-Wash Rinse and it was so slippery (slightly sudsing), that her tangles melted like butter.
